SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION 

The Akello Bomani Scholarship was developed to recognize extraordinary African-American men who exemplify the characteristics of someone who “brings forth the warrior” within themselves to reach their full potential.

HOW MUCH?

A $1000 cash scholarship that will provide financial assistance towards the cost of living or other educational expenses.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Current African-American male who will be enrolled full-time at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in the Fall of 2025

• Minimum GPA: 2.7

• Winner must be able to attend Alpha Phi Alpha Gala 

SUBMISSION MATERIALS

Digital Portfolio containing:

1.) Cover Page that includes: Career aspirations, short-term goals, 5-year post-graduate plan and what

you’re doing to achieve them.

2.) Resume (outlining academic achievement, professional positions, detailing leadership experience,etc)

3.) 700 Word Essay answering the following question:

Option 1: What do you believe are the keys to the success of the African American male in today’s society? And why?

Option 2: What role does education, mentorship, and community play in the success of African American men today?

Option 3: From your perspective, what barriers must African American males overcome to achieve success – and what tools help them do so?

4.) Unofficial copy of transcript.
